Last Age : The Broken Shadow
This was going to be my 3rd game. Developed an RPG with a ton of sub-systems and whatnot, and a lot of the abilities fleshed out. Unfortunately my artist poofed on me in the middle of development and I was looking at overhauling the maps (over world) to match the quality of the combat stuff. For the DBP submission I ended up shelling out roughly 1000 bucks for the animated combat sprites for the 4 characters and the submission got no attention. I didn't do much with it afterwards since my artist had died.
Watching the video again makes me want to keep going with it, but then I remember the whole artist problem. Maybe someday.

I love old school sprite based RPGs! They always had such depth to the characters(not to mention there were usually more than one or two to choose from in your party!). That looks really neat Xal!

Yeah it was the final nail in the coffin when the artist poofed on it. He's been impossible to replace. That isn't to say the art has to be *that* caliber. Whats more important is that the quantity can be dealt with while keeping the visual style consistent. Consistency between the over world map and combat maps was a big problem and what I needed to rework. Losing the artist has, so far killed the project. I still know what I'd like to do though.
Just a matter of finding someone dependable that can turn out something consistent.
Also you'd be surprised what you can do after a long period of application. Every artist I've seen do an indie game you can visually see their art get more refined as time goes by.
